>>1606 She has so much untapped potential.
>>1599 What other lands do you think she could rule? Would she go further north or somewhere else to build her empire?
I can't say I like Flurry Heart that much but anything better than that purple usurper in charge.
>>1615 The thing about Flurry Heart is she's practically a blank slate. There's a little bit of "characterisation" in the one or two episodes where she stars, but characterisation for a baby is both very vague and also extremely non-binding. I don't really like the S6 opener or the concept of an alicorn baby either, but to be honest by the time Flurry came around the original number of alicorns had already been doubled and """alicorn lore""" was pretty much in shambles already (and personally I think an alicorn just being a random foalsitter is way more egregious than an alicorn princess's baby being born as an alicorn). Ultimately some of the fanon characterisations are really fun, from the pony-ethnostate Empress defying Twilight's creaturequestria, to shouting's rebellious teenager portrayal. Overall, I think Flurry might even really be a blessing in disguise, by providing a blank slate canon alicorn that can be used for all kinds of stories and lore. Basically what >>1607 said. Essentially Hasbro took it upon themselves the cringe of making an "alicorn OC" and giving it to us, so that we can use it for all our stories without actually having to make an alicorn OC ourselves.
I know the age difference might make it quite creepy, so I understand if there is hate to this. I quite like the idea of her redeeming Sombra somewhat while also being won over by some of his ideas/methods, and them working together vs the fallen sad state of Twilight's Equestria.
>>1623 This, but without Sombra
>>1622 Sounds right. >>1623 I never considered anything like that before. It is a neat idea.
>>1623 I think Flurry x Sombra can have potential, but I'm not a big fan of redeeming Sombra. His entire character seems to be "power-hungry slaver", using cruelty, inducing terrors with dark magic, etc. He seems completely devoid of empathy, and power-hungry and sadistic to the extreme. Like, Nightmare Moon wanted to bring about eternal night and wanted to be loved. Chrysalis wanted to feed her children and not have them metamorphose into gay sissybugs. Even Tirek, who wanted power, wanted it basically just to be powerful and run around on roids; he only wanted to hurt other ponies insofar as he wanted to drain them of their power for himself. Selfish and power-hungry, but not sadistic. Meanwhile, in comparison, Sombra wanted power to dominate. He literally enslaved with mind control the entire population of his empire. Allegedly in S9 his first act after being revived was to mind control everyone into being his slaves. He seems to want "power" less for raw strength, but rather more to be able to make everyone his subservient slaves, to strip them of all agency and rule over everyone else absolutely. So there are various ways you can go with Sombra+Flurry, from full-on evil Flurry to some kind of middle ground where Sombra stops using sadistic terror spells and maybe even doesn't mind control everyone, but still rules with an iron hoof. I don't, however, really see it working with Sombra being redeemed enough to be "good" and actually working for the greater good of ponies. I really don't see a world where Sombra sees Equestria being weakened by Twilight's bullshit and, rather than rejoicing that it'll soon be in shambles and easy pickings to conquer and subjugate, instead fights to restore a strong pony nation. In general, "strong pony nation/populace" seems antithetical to his methods.
>>1624 It could work without him directly now you mention it. Maybe Flurry just uncovers some of his books or some such. >>1626 A very good post. Perhaps I was wrong in using the word "redeemed". More like just "less evil". But the points you make about him being less inclined to working with Flurry to help ponies are good ones. I suppose he wouldn't be that likely to want to do that. Maybe there would be the slightly tired trope of "Flurry and Sombra have defeated Twilight, but shock horror, Sombra was working his own plan all along, now he is the real last battle". I don't like that much as an idea but a good enough writer could probably make it work.
>>1623 I could just be a regular partnership. Long in the future a misguided Flurry seeks out Sombra for advice on how to build her own empire.
Chrysalis makes a better collaborator than Flurry anyway, especially since all Chrysalis wanted was to secure the well-being of her hive so she shouldn't be opposed to the idea of doing good to ponies. Flurry could even secure some kind of mutually beneficial deal if the Crystal Heart can somehow be tuned to give free food to changelings.
>>1631 *than Sombra, I'm retarded

What if Twilight almost wanted to be defeated? She carries on ruling and trying to stop Flurry but the unicorn part of her from all those years ago is in a sense cheering Flurry on. Obligation and pressure keeps her hard like a diamond and going, but she knows in a sense she has become abhorrent. Would be crushing to have her relieved and even smiling when finally defeated.
>>1640 >a non-pony being the prince consort of a pony Empire shiggy
>>1644 It's all fantasy wish fulfillment anyway. Why stop at this point?
>>1642 I could see that, as a way to absolve herself of responsibility. Consumed by her own twisted ideals of "frienship", she might believe in her duty to keep going, even if deep down the feeling that everything is going horribly wrong just won't go away. But she's always been one for overthinking things - Lesson Zero is a horrible guide for her character in general, but it does show what kind of mindset it's possible for her to get into, when someone looking over from the side can clearly things are completely wrong but she's tunnel visioned on some idea and is fully convinced she must carry it out to completion. Flurry overthrowing her would free up that part of her mind. She'll have failed, she'll no longer be capable of carrying out her demented plans, but instead of crushing defeat it'll come with relief. Whatever happens to Equestria, it'll be Flurry's responsibility now: she's done everything she could in the way she thought best, and now it's no longer in her hooves.
>>1645 Because the fantasy wish fulfillment of Flurry establishing a pony ethnostate is completely orthogonal to the fantasy wish fulfillment of being Flurry's prince consort. Unless you wanna have a fantasy of Flurry establishing a pony ethnostate except for the super special non-pony called Anon who's totally a-ok unlike everycreature else, but that's a pretty dumb fantasy. Now you're allowed to have dumb fantasies - you could even fantasize about becoming an alicorn OC and singlehandedly defeating Twilight and effectively governing both the Crystal Empire and Equestria while having Flurry swoon over you and orbit your dick - and there's nothing wrong with enjoying that as much as you want. But the caveat with dumb fantasies is that if you tell other people about them, they'll call them dumb. So: your fantasy is dumb.
>>1647 >So: your fantasy is dumb. I'm not the poster that said it, it's not my fantasy. But I understand what you mean.
>>1647 >Unless you wanna have a fantasy of Flurry establishing a pony ethnostate except for the super special non-pony called Anon who's totally a-ok unlike everycreature else So she can infinitely keep him on the palace grounds or even in dungeons as a sex toy/conversation partner and not show anyone because >They'll lynch you anyway, so quit whining and go back to licking!
>>1649 Ok this one's hot, I'm gonna have dumb fantasies about this too. It's still dumb though because it makes Flurry a hypocrite (or should I say hippocrite?). Unless you go the route of pony supremacy threads where non-ponies are considered fair game for slavery, for their own good. It's a bit of a morality shift from the stereotypical Empress Flurry headcanon, but it could be interesting.
>>1646 >Princess Twilight with Lesson Zero-tier tunnel vision over years of responsibility and stress >no Celestia or Luna to calm her down >Spike is probably just as afraid of her as anyone else when she has occasional meltdowns That is quite the scary thought. I can only imagine how much of a relief it would be to be free of such a burden, even if by total defeat.

>>1642 I could buy that. I don't hate the idea of Twilight becoming an alicorn, but alicorn Twilight makes me sad. I can't help but view it as a tragic direction to take the character in. In the canon timeline specifically, after she became an alicorn, she began losing everything that she had had during Seasons 1-3. Sometimes this is because it changed how others perceive her, even making her a target, as in the destruction of the Ponyville library. Other times she does it to herself from a twisted sense of obligation that she has to bury herself to conform to her conception of what a princess should be like, which basically means trying to be like her idealised view of Celestia. The biggest example of this is the epilogue... I hate that episode, but it's very relevant here. ... when she abandons her Ponyville friends out of this very false sense of obligation. They might still have a shared nostalgia beyond that point, but that is not the same thing as an ongoing friendship. And it's pretty obvious that if she was able to think it avoidable, she wouldn't have done that. But she did. And the burial is completed. It's hard to say if there will be any of the original Twilight left in there by the time Flurry Heart is old enough to overthrow her.
This is a good thread.
>>1653 >Other times she does it to herself from a twisted sense of obligation that she has to bury herself This. I've come to enjoy Twilicorn and the later seasons in a kind of twisted, perverted way, not as a comfy show about ponies, but as a slow burn tragedy showing her spiral to downfall. Well, maybe enjoy is a strong word, but I can appreciate them from that angle.
>>1653 >It's hard to say if there will be any of the original Twilight left in there by the time Flurry Heart is old enough to overthrow her. I wonder if Princess Twilight resents Celestia by that point. Assuming the tragic decline angle, surely she'd have come to truly hate Celestia for how planned her life has been, how every step was built so she would have to rule. Then add in the maddening fact that Twilight hero worshipped her. Princess Twilight strikes me as the longer her reign goes on for, the more and more her beliefs and what she experiences clash. The creatures are spoiling Equestria. But creatures and friendship are good! And so on. Being Twilight she keeps trying to make things work. Then you factor in her feelings to Flurry herself. Is she jealous of Flurry for being an alicorn from birth? Does she come to resent Flurry for not having her life guided out for her? How to reconcile that with that fact that Flurry will eventually be all that is left to remind her of her mortal brother? I am enjoying thinking about this.
>>1657 >I-it's all the Celestia's fault! The absolute state of Twifags. No, it's your beloved waifu's retardation and autism that led to her downfall, not Celestia. Besides, nobody knows what Purple Shit did to her and Luna in the first place. Book of Harmony, after all, is being narrated by an unreliable hypocritical narrator, Twilight herself.
(991.45 KB 2000x2000 1611588106138.jpg)
>>1658 It isn't Celestia's fault. Twilight might come to see it that way to deflect from her accepting it is her own fault.
>>1635 >creatures could be turned into love-food stock How would Changelings actually farm love? I'd imagine simply chaining up their cattle wouldn't work as that wouldn't really generate much love. Maybe they put them into some kind of matrix dreamland?
>>1653 I always saw the ascension of Twilight as the natural conclusion somewhere far off in the distant future. Main issues are that it came much too early (though to be fair, the show was originally supposed to be only 3 seasons) and that the execution of the episode wasn't very good.
>>1667 >I'd imagine simply chaining up their cattle wouldn't work as that wouldn't really generate much love. You'd think so but apparently cocooning is an effective way to gather love.
>>1670 Isn't cocooning just for preservation? from Frenemies (s9e08) Cozy Glow: Why are you doing that? Didn't you already drain it of love? Queen Chrysalis: I always save a little for the next day. Cozy Glow: You cocoon all of your... meals? Queen Chrysalis: Of course. Cozy Glow: So when you pony-napped Twilight and the others, you cocooned them. Queen Chrysalis: Yes. Until that sow Starlight Glimmer freed them, corrupted my subjects, and stole my hive!
>>1671 Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. Still, clearly, whatever method they use works well. Even if it's just "cocoon for storage, periodically take out and drain love to feed then put back in cocoon". If it works for ponies and whatever Chrysalis captured in that episode, it should work just as well for all other creatures too.

>>1642 >What if Twilight almost wanted to be defeated? I am reminded of an idea I had for a greentext a number of years back. Since it's not likely to be done anytime soon, might as well post it. Thought of it shortly before the nulings becames a thing. >Celestia dies leaving Twilight to her place. >Twilight doesn't feel ready and despite officially having the position, leaves it to Luna and instead mopes around Ponyville. >Luna just about goes crazy from the loss of her sister, is mainly relagated to a figurehead while Equestria is actually lead by committee behind the scenes. Some key story points I remember: >Twilight gets invited by Cadence to the Crystal Empire, it is urgent. >Find out that Cadence is actually sick and dying, her appearance is being faked by Thorax (prior to ponies accepting changelings). >Gets Twilight mostly convinced to rethink her position. >Return to situation with Luna threatening suicide on the front steps of Canterlot, keeps others away with magical bubble shield. >Tries to talk Luna down, doesn't work. After it's over Twi is left on the steps with everypony looking to her. >Some relevation occurs, Equestria has a new leader. The end. Would have kind of been a dark and sad story. Don't know how well it would have worked out if it was actually done.
>>1984 Anon, please, go out, go to the nearest railway and play on the tracks. If a train appears, do not worry, it's ok.
>>1984 Its an interesting idea, if written well it could work.
>>1988 >>1986 duality of nhnb
>>1984 >1984 nice Anyway this COULD work well as a sadfic, or even a story about Twilight becoming stronger despite everything going to shit and managing to rebuild the Equestrian government. After all, even something like D=S-M has an audience. On the other hand it would be extremely easy to fuck up and just make it into a boring angstfest, and if you do it'll basically be shit because trying to do that with ponies just comes off as wannabe edgy. So the risk of failure and the cost of failure are both high if attempted.
>>1993 Yeah, it probably would have been a bit of a downer had I ever gotten around to doing it. Can only imagine the idea was influenced by Dracononymous/Sea Urchin and his stories.
>>2019 Sea Urchin is actually an excellent example of sad/edgy ponyfics done well, but then he's really good at writing. And even so some people still find his stories to be just pointlessly edgy.

There's a little bit of "characterisation" in the one or two episodes where she stars, but characterisation for a baby is both very vague and also extremely non-binding. Sounds like what it was when Luna had only two lines of dialogue. She was in a similar state back then, and was more or less the dark horse of the fandom. In essence, being far more popular than her sister because the fandom perceived her to be cute and adorable, especially after fics like Progress hit the scene. Then S2 Luna happened, and all that was more or less dust. Can't say I like the concept of yet another damned alicorn myself, but I could see the appeal from this perspective. You are indeed fortunate Hasbro did not touch her much beyond that.
