Why do you think their eyes got larger over time? I think maybe Equestria was dark for a very long period of time (in between G3 and G4) before Celestia came onto the scene, thus creating an evolutionary incentive for the eyes to grow larger for better eyesight. Obviously the reason for the darkness would be that the sun didn't rise for possibly tens of thousands of years without anypony to raise it.
>>26448 Magic
>>26448 Maybe with only normal unicorns to raise the sun, they couldn't manage to get it into the proper position in the sky, forcing ponies to live in less than optimal lighting
>>26448 I remember a prompt about Equestria's sunlight being purely magical in nature rather than electromagnetic, so ponies needed a unique eye anatomy which took up more space The prompt also said that Equestria would be permanently pitch black to human eyes Tying this into your theory maybe earlygen ponies had a dimunitive ability to see magical energy but after some time the natural sun was destroyed By discord or something idk and unicorn mages created an artificial sun for a global dim light supplemented by torches and shit. Then larger eyes adapted to detecting magical light would be selected for over the generations until daytime is perceived to be as bright as it used to be
>>26448 They lived in caves for a timeless eternity, throughout the entire era of Discord. And not by choice: caves were the only place to be. There was no ground, no sky. When Discord was defeated, their sages had to reinvent the sky and the ground from scratch, having nothing but old stories and imagination to go by. By this time you can still find yourself in the past if you wander too deep. There are rumors of pony miners who disappeared forever in inexplicable ways or went back to their families different. And it's not just my theory, no. I know it all for certain because I saw it in a dream. Also, their eyes reflect light in the dark and it's scary as fuck if you don't expect it.
>>26448 Do you think Ponies have a sort of protective lens over their huge eyes, sorta like some animals do?
I don’t see why there would be evolution in equestria, probably everything always existed or was magically created
>>26448 why did they got taller only to get small again

>>26679 Guessing you think Celestia actually moves the sun too huh?
If I was rewriting G4, the pre-Equestrian era would be scavenging under endless, dim moonlight. The sun was created by unicorns but its benefits are only truly felt when pegasi and earth ponies tend to the skies and the lands respectively, thus allowing for the thriving pony civilization we see today.

I think you're partially right about the sunlight. However, I believe that Celestia took over the celestial dynamics that already exist. I think that the problem was with their sun not producing enough energy. >"..Over the ages the star grew colder and the ponies of Equesrtia adapted as they could to the dimming world they inhabited. Then, in the great Celestial transformation, a distant sun was commandeered and moved to their system to replace their dying sun. Amd all ponies did rejoice and sing their pony songs of tribute to Celestia and happiness to the return of warmth to their world.."
